Online LEARNING OVERVIEW

Simulation and Gamification

Simulation and Gamification

Simulation and Gamification

Simulation is a technique for practice and learning that can be applied to many different disciplines and trainees. It is “immersive” in that the learner is able to navigate their environment in a way that replaces and amplifies real experiences with guided ones. This encourages problem-solving, and critical thinking, and allows the learner to "fail" in a safe environment.

Competency-Based Training

Competency-based training (CBT) is a structured approach to training and assessment that is directed toward achieving specific outcomes. CBT is about assisting individuals to acquire skills and knowledge so they are able to perform a task to a specified standard under certain conditions.

Content Development

BCE Safety applies rigorous Instructional Design methodologies to content development. We work with your Subject Matter Experts (SMEs), applying industry standard risk and task analysis tools. We apply industry best practices to ensure the final content optimizes skill and knowledge transfer.

Learning Styles

Content Development

Everyone has a mix of learning styles. Some people may find that they have a dominant style of learning, with far less use of the other styles. Others may find that they use different styles in different circumstances.

Current learning technologies offer the opportunity to select the most effective, and cost-effective, combination of learning tools to meet your competency goals.

Distance Learning

Distance learning provides the opportunity for knowledge transfer without geographic constraints. It is a very cost-effective solution to maximize your audience while maintaining your standards of quality and consistency.

Blended learning is the use of online tools to supplement what is learned in class. This can include discussion boards, online quizzes, and a variety of other online resources that enable students and instructors to connect over in-class material.

ONLINE LEARNING CASE STUDY

Simulation-Based Learning Case Study

BCE Safety staff have developed a range of products to meet specific customer goals. Our Service Rig Training suite was developed to respond to the industry's high accident rate.

In 2003 the Demand for energy resulted in increased activity in the industry. Consequently, many inexperienced new hires found themselves in dangerous environments for which they were poorly prepared. Reportable incidents soared, workers were getting injured and productivity plummeted. Statistically, over 50% of new hires were involved in incidents in the first two months of employment. This figure dropped to less than 5% within six months.

The Service Rig Training (SRT) system went “live” in 2008. Within the first 12 months of implementation BCE Safety’s industry partners reported a “40% decrease in our  Total Recordable Incident Rate (TRIR)” (Deborah Close, President, Tervita). Ms. Close also stated, “The accident rate has continued to decrease and last year was our best year ever. The Service Rig Training program was a major contributing factor”.

The Rig Training suite of products is now being used in high schools as a credited course in the vocational training program.

The budget for this project was $4,000,000
